Dummy RCM print

The first print was a disaster! Or, at least, my aggressive "cleaning" of the part:

I was "aggressive" in printing this part on a few points:
  • I aggressively hollowed out the interior of the mechanics (I am interested in hollow robots and joints in general), and ended up making the shells 1.8 mm thick. In addition, I removed a lot of material from the joints, which made a very weak connection point. (Actually, all breakage points are at this location.)
  • I was too eager to see the assembly move, and yanked hard on the model before the wax was completely removed. It was then too late.
A second iteration is queued for printing, with adjustments to the design to reduce the fragility of the joints.

Emblem design

I am interested in the black steel and sterling silver materials available from Shapeways. A simple project is to craft a ring based on these materials.

Some brainstorming:

Ordered in black steel for $12. Premium silver is too expensive ($50) for this first trial part.

Some interesting posts on Creo techniques:

Printing mechanical joints

I am hijacking the blog to describe miscellaneous designs for 3D printing!
